Hello friends!

I hope that the Christmas season has treated you well, and that even if you don’t celebrate the festival, you have enjoyed the long weekend break. It is a good time to get together with family or friends, or better yet, to stay home and recharge.

to the new year

A brand new year is around the corner, and I had high hopes of being right here, talking to you about beauty and pretty things till the year end. But as they say, Man proposes but God disposes. Something personal has come up and I’d like to just take a little time to myself for now. I’d like to leave you instead with a bit of year-end musing on 2016.

Hunting down the Holy Grail exfoliating toner that is the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50W

Often, when you finally get your hands on the one item you want most ever, you can feel one of two ways – elated at discovering what a truly AMAZING product it is, or disappointed. Getting my hands on Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 was like getting my hands on the Holy Grail and left me feeling a little worried.

Would I love it, or would it just be an overhyped piece of crap?

biologique recherche lotion p50w

I’d heard so much about Lotion P50, which is an acid toner, a lotion/toner that you use on skin after cleansing and before the rest of your skincare. Toners with acids like these serve an exfoliating function, smoothing imperfections, unblocking pores and leaving your skin looking brighter and smoother.

I’d been using a few different ones for a while, and they’ve made a difference to my skin. But the ultimate measure of an exfoliation lotion toner has always been the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50, based on my online research. The main problem is that it’s so hard to find. So. Hard!

Biologique Recherche is a salon brand, that is only sold at specialist salons and online, only at certain websites. In fact, if you were to look online, there’s no website that will ship internationally, and it’s HELL trying to find the price of the products. The best way is to find yourself a salon, walk in and buy it. Or get a friend with access to a salon or website to buy it for you. There really is no other way!

Stop Press! Bobbi Brown is leaving Bobbi Brown – say what?!

I woke up yesterday to a slew of terrible news on my twitter timeline concerning world events. It’s starting to feel again like we’re teetering on the edge of a World War, if not more armed conflict. Amongst all that was a major piece of news from the beauty world – Bobbi Brown was leaving her eponymous brand. My head reeled at that point.

2016 has been one hell of a ride and even in its sunset days, it’s still continuing to stun us with bizzare and surreal news. If there was ever an annus horribilis, this is it!

As was reported in WWD, makeup artist Bobbi Brown is leaving her cosmetics brand after 25 years. The brand celebrated its 25th anniversary this year in 2016, and there was a slew of products to mark the milestone. What none of us consumers were expecting of course, was for the lady herself to bid her brand goodbye.

I got to thinking then of how a brand like Bobbi Brown, who has always been fronted and led  by the creator herself, would fare once she leaves. That’s in just a few days for she steps away from her brand by the end of 2016!

The Libre de Chanel Holiday 2016 collection draws inspiration from the urban style but it is the colours that shine

Chanel has a new creative director in Lucia Pica and she’s doing some interesting things that bears watching. Her first collection was the Le Rouge collection, with an interesting take on a Fall/Autumn collection and her first Christmas, or as some will have it, Holiday collection, is similarly different. The Libre de Chanel Holiday 2016 collection is a departure from festive reds and golds.

Like the Dior collection, I received this late, but I know it’s still available at the brand new Chanel Beauty boutique at Pavilion KL if you’re interested. (you’d want to visit, because there’s this amazing highlighter I’m going to show you that’s only available there!)

I’ll take you quickly through the few items I have here, and show you the beautiful limited edition Camelia de Chanel highlighter, that apparently isn’t yet available in many places. I’m not sure why, but it’s available here, and quite likely, flying off the shelves as we speak! 😛

Excuse me while I rave about this super affordable and gentle CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser

I came across this very affordable brand, CeraVe, online quite a while back. It was one of those USA “drugstore” brands that I pine for halfway across the world, because everyone raves about it especially for sensitive skin, but I can’t get hold of it for so many reasons. But when I found it out was available here in Malaysia, I was off to the pharmacies like Speedy Gonzales! You couldn’t see me for the dust I left behind!

Unhappily, we appear to only have a tiny little selection available here in Malaysia, but hey, at least we get it! I picked up the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, targeted at dry to normal skin. Oh hey, that’s me!

cerave hydrating cleanser

CeraVe (I have no idea how to pronounce it, so I call it ‘sera-vee’ in my head – let me know if you know!) is one of those dermatological brands, that remind me of Cetaphil. In fact, at the local pharmacy, it’s located near Cetaphil, Seba-med etc in the most obscure shelf you can find by the bath products, on the lowest shelf. You’d have to stoop down and really PEER at the shelves to be sure you can see anything, and then you’d be rewarded by the sight of 3 items. LOL! I kid you not! There were just 3 items from this brand on the shelf of the pharmacy I went to (Caring) and 2 items from each product. It’s like sifting sand for gold dust.

At normal times, I’m sure that you, like me, wouldn’t give this one a second look. It isn’t pretty, it’s obscure, and it’s really quite cheap, that you start questioning if it’s any good at all. Well, it is. So, aren’t you glad I found you a very affordable and good cleanser? Now, say thank you nicely 😛

Hello, friends! Is anyone actually up and about, and raring to go after that lovely long weekend we had here in Malaysia? LOL Well, even if you aren’t, there’s the coming long Christmas weekend to look forward to next week!

I was messing about during the weekend (as you do), and I had a thought – What is your preferred product to use when doing your brows?

brow products

You know me – things like this make me curious, because there are so many brow products out there! There are pencils that you sharpen, retractable pencils, angled pencils, brow mascara, brow pomade…. I honestly never thought there were that many!

I’ve been experimenting with the famed Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade recently, and I’ll share my thoughts on it, alongside telling you if it’s my favourite brow product … and if it isn’t, what is 🙂 Naturally, I’m curious what’s your pick!
