The Chinese Lunar New Year festivities are upon us once again, with the Rooster cock-a-doodle-dooing its way in this year. It’s quite early this time around, coming hot on the heels of a brand new year and the year end festivities that ensued. I’m not even sure most of us (and our wallets) have recovered yet!

It is during the Chinese New Year that, as kids, we stood to make a little money LOL It’s tradition to give out lucky red packets (or what we call ‘ang pow’ or in Mandarin ‘hong bao’) with cash it in, for good luck. Chinese, luck, prosperity and money always go hand in hand LOL!

While most of us will be on the giving end, as opposed to the receiving end by now, I nevertheless thought I’d share with you 8 things you could spend your ang pow money on. Not all on once, naturally, but if you’re looking for a little treat to kick off the year, or to welcome in the Year of the Fire Rooster (or what I’d call Roast Chicken Year LOL! 😀 ) here are some personal favourites.

Some are new and coming soon, I got them as a preview, and some I’ve had a while, but are now available here. So, just quickly (because I don’t want to take you away from family time – or perhaps you relish this little time away eh? 😉 ) here are the 8 items I picked. Chinese like the number 8 ok – it’s lucky LOL! 😀

If you’ve popped by the Chanel counter or beauty boutique these couple of weeks, you may notice a brand new skincare product being showcased. This is the Chanel Blue Serum, a brand new product, targeted at all skin types and almost all ages. Early this month, I travelled to Taipei, Taiwan, to learn a little more about this, that Chanel calls a “Universal Serum”.

The concept behind the Blue Serum is quite an interesting one. In launching this product, Chanel is embarking on a holistic journey of wellness and longevity, a concept that we don’t really see addressed in mainstream cosmetics brands.

This isn’t a review (not yet). I’m here to share what the Blue Serum really is about (because it’s tricky wrapping my head around it too!) 😛

Now I’ve tried the Dr. Lewinn’s 4 Fusion Cleansing Oil, I’m mulling a return to using cleansing oils!

I have one major flaw in character, and that’s sticking quite closely to my beliefs and principle. Usually, once I make up my mind about something, for better or worse, I stick with it. It’s both a boon and a bane. The latter, mostly because it means I have a tendency to close my mind off to options that aren’t in line with my choices, simply because I have the impression I won’t like it.

This is what happened when I was introduced to the Dr. Lewinn’s 4 Fusion Cleansing Oil. A cleansing oil. BAH! I’d given up on cleansing oils! They made my skin so dehydrated and dry, I hadn’t used one in years and I’d tell everyone that I was a cleansing balm user, and proud of it.

But you know what? I love being proven wrong. I love when my convictions start to waver in the face of a product that is everything anathema to me, yet does everything the opposite of how I feel about it.

The Dr. Lewinn’s 4 Fusion Cleansing Oil is one such product. It flies against everything I believe about cleansing oils – over cleansing, dehydrating, pore-clogging, eye-smarting – and just made me believe in cleansing oil again. I LOVE THAT! And this! 😀

The La Mer Revitalizing Hydrating Serum is only just available at counters this January 2017, but I’d actually been testing it for about a month prior to its launch, thanks to a preview sample I received. You’d have read some tips on how I incorporate it into my beauty lifestyle here. Thing is, since I started using it, I’ve not really wanted to stop so I wanted to share some thoughts on it. It’s one of those things I’m excited to share, because I love it – and you know I don’t say things like that lightly!

la mer the revitalizing hydrating serum

The La Mer Revitalizing Hydrating Serum, despite the lofty name is really a hydrating serum, and the first in the La Mer stable. The press copy says that it is a deeply replenishing serum, that is so effective that it penetrates deeply into the skin to flood it with actives sourced from the sea, and the trademarked La Mer Miracle Broth. The key ingredients are the Deep Hydration Ferment from green, brown and red algae to penetrate and revitalize the skin surface and offer all-day hydration; and Lime Tea Concentrate, an antioxidant that protects against the elements.

Press copy aside, what I can tell you is that I did not expect for this serum to leave my skin feeling so well hydrated throughout the day. I must say that I’m very impressed! 🙂

Confession time: The Konmari Method of tidying wasn’t life-changing nor magical for me

In 2015/2016 I came across a book that was a bestseller – The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying by Japanese writer Marie Kondo. In it, she explained the various methods in which to help you declutter and organize your living space, and by extension, your life.

It’s also known as the “Konmari method” of tidying/decluttering/organizing, and it took the world by storm.

I had to see what the fuss was about, so I bought the book and read it cover to cover. I had also just moved house then, so it was quite timely. While I’d thrown out a lot of stuff during my move, I still had a lot to go through. I decided to see if the Konmari method would help me.

konmari method did not work

Interestingly, after trying it out for quite a while, I can safely say that I’m resigned to being a packrat 😛 Yes, I’m one of the Konmari method school dropouts – one of the few who started out with good intentions, put some into practice, but who decided that the Konmari method wasn’t for me. I do realise I’m the exception to the rule, so I’d love to know if the Konmari method works for you!

The big test is whether the brand new Rouge Dior Couture Color collection is a Miss or scores a full 999

I think some of you remember me going a little overboard when the Dior Addict lipsticks were reformulated, where I basically bashed their brains out LOL! I stand by every single word I say till today. New Dior Addicts suck. Old Dior Addicts were lipsticks I finished and could never give up and everyone I recommended them to loved them.

Then I found out that Dior was reformulating their Rouge Dior lipstick range, and I died a little inside.

I love Rouge Dior! It’s the perfect “grown-up” lipstick, with its beautiful packaging, and opaque, pigmented colour with a lightweight formula. The new Rouge Dior Couture Color lipstick range comes in a satin and matte formula. I received one from each range many many months ago, and as you can probably tell, they’re worn down. Oops! 😛 I’m trying to be better at featuring new releases as they arrive, but since these are permanent, you can still find them – no stress! 😉

It was not without a whole lot of trepidation that I put the new Rouge Dior to the test. We’re talking about some of my favourite lipsticks here – if they had messed with Rouge Dior, I’d probably leave the brand forever! (so drama LOL! 😀 )
