I’m not a big user of makeup primers. For the most part, I’ve found them useful when I want my makeup to stay on longer for something special, but otherwise, I’m quite happy not to use them. I just don’t notice any other benefits.

But recently, I’ve been experimenting with some makeup primers that offer more than just a surface for your makeup to sit on. These primers add that much needed glow to lacklustre skin, and I have to confess that I am a convert! I love these primers!

I have quite a few, as you can see above, and I’ll share my thoughts with you on each of them. This is of course, a non-exhaustive list. I could well find another one later that I love, but I thought it would be useful to have them all in one place for now 🙂

These are primers I have been playing around with for a while, and didn’t realise how many I’d amassed till now 😛 My complexion has been a little off in recent times. I’m not sure if it is due to poor sleeping patterns, skincare, or just festive season food that is too rich. But I haven’t been feeling and looking my best, and it shows on my complexion. So, every little help is welcomed!

But out of all of them, I have my favourite. Oh yes I do, and I credit it for picking up my complexion when I am fatigued, making me look chirpy and perky when I really look like I should be crawling under a rock. Take a guess which 😉

The Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydrating Mask was launched some time last year. I’ll tell you that I rather liked it. But I couldn’t tell you about it earlier, because my last experience with something I enjoyed from Kiehl’s didn’t have a happy ending. I told myself then, that I’d give all new releases from Kiehl’s 6 months, just in case they change their mind.

Well, more than 6 months have passed and the Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydrating Mask is still around, so I guess it’s safe to talk about it now LOL!

This joins Kiehl’s’ mask wardrobe, offering a hydration boost to skin. I enjoyed using the other versions of the Kiehl’s masks, and I was wondering if I might like this one too.

When Kiehl’s launched it, they tried to sell me the idea of multi-masking, by applying different masks on different parts of the face. It isn’t a new concept, as people have been doing it for a while. For some reason, it amuses people to have different coloured masks on different parts of the face. However, I never bought into that technique.

I multi-mask. But I do so, one after another. A clay mask, or a peel type mask, followed by a soothing and hydrating mask. I feel that I derive the most benefit this way, rather than only treating one part of my face at any one time. But that’s me! Onto this mask 🙂

Often, when I show you my skincare routine either here on the blog or on Instagram, one item tends to catch the attention of most. The facial mist. The most common question I get is “What does it do? Is it even necessary?”

I thought it would be a good time to address this.

why use facial mist

I’ll share my thoughts about why I use facial mists or facial sprays, and how I use them, and you can tell me then if it’s something you use, or if it’s just a waste of time for you 🙂 No right or wrong rules here, people! I’ll also quickly run down the ones I have here and share some thoughts on why I like them (or don’t). I have a few others that I’ve used, but no longer have the bottles. If I can remember what they are, I’ll include them in the list 🙂 So, hang on tight, here we go!

I am going to be trite and say this “I cannot believe that we are halfway through February 2018!” Is it me, or is 2018 flying by a little too quickly for comfort? Slow down! I want to cry. And I guess I will have some time to slow down soon, with the Lunar New Year festivities upon us.

This year, the barking Dog chases the Rooster out of our home, and I will be taking a few days off, as I do at this time of year, to celebrate the festivities and spend time at home with the family. Incidentally, if you want to stay in touch with blog posts, you can sign up here for a weekly email that goes out with a compilation of that week’s blog posts, so you don’t have to miss out on any future posts!

But before I leave you for the festivities, I wanted to quickly share some things I’ve been loving, that I think you might love too! Or at least, some things you can save your ang pow money for 😀 I’ve made sure that they’re (mostly) permanent products because I despise the limited edition push to buy NOW, as much as anyone else.

There are a couple of items that I may elaborate on in future review (holler, if there is one you want to see in greater depth!) but I wanted to make sure I told you about these things, some of which I’ve been using for months now, and thoroughly loving to bits! 😀

For drier skins, boost hydration with the Hada Labo Premium Hydrating Cream that doesn’t come with a premium price tag!

This one’s coming up by very popular demand, ever since I put a picture on Instagram a while ago. This is primarily because I absolutely loved the Hada Labo Premium Hydrating Lotion (which I still use! It’s very good, very hydrating, good value and easily accessible for us, which matters).

Naturally therefore, everyone’s wondering if this Hada Labo Premium Hydrating Cream is as wonderful?

The Hada Labo Premium Hydrating Cream is the counterpart to my favourite Premium Hydrating Lotion. Like the lotion, this contains 5 types of Hyaluronic Acid – Hyaluronic Acid for a moisture retention barrier, Super Hyaluronic Acid with 2 times the moisture retention capacity, Nano Hyaluronc Acid to penetrate deeply into the skin to provide moisture deep down, Absorbent Hyaluronic Acid that allows it to stay on skin through sweat or washing and 3D Hyaluronic Acid that binds together to form a 3D moisture net wrapping the skin to provide long lasting moisture retention.

On top of all that, the Hada Labo Premium Hydrating Cream contains 3 types of ceramides to strengthen the skin moisture barrier, which helps keep skin moist and supple.

It all sounds pretty amazing, if you ask me. But the more important question is this – how does it fare?
