When it comes to your skincare – is less more? Should you go on the Skincare Diet?

do you need a skincare diet?

A few years ago when Korean skincare and k-beauty took the world by storm, the 14-step routine suddenly became popular and the gold standard. Lotions! Essence! Creams! Layer them on! The more the merrier!

A few years later, someone decided that putting lotion or essence on their skin 7 times was a good thing. And everyone was doing it!

what is the skincare diet?

Is it surprising therefore that, as with all demonstrations of excess, people would then turn torwards the minimal?

I was prompted to think about this, when a friend sent me an article about what is known as “the Skincare Diet”. And truth be told, I had a good laugh over it 😛

Each year, nothing signals Christmas more clearly to me, than the arrival of the Diptyque Christmas collections and their Christmas candles. There is always an interesting story behind their new designs and scents. Last year’s was an undisputed winner, I’m sure you all agree! So, Diptyque Christmas 2018 had a lot to live up to in my eyes!

I confess that when I first laid eyes on the Diptyque Christmas 2018 collection – Legende du Nord, I felt a little disappointed. It is still a beautiful collection. But coming down from last year’s with its sleek black jars adorned with mystical creatures, and coloured wax, I felt this to be almost normal 🙁

It isn’t however. It goes back to Diptyque’s regular Christmas offerings – each year, as you can see from 2016, Diptyque houses their Christmas candles in coloured jars, with a back story to them. This year is no different.

Salon Spy: I tried the Celebrity Medifacial with RF Treatment at Ceramiracle and left with food for thought

I’ve always been a sucker for facials. Not everyone enjoys going for them, but I do! I used to be very adventurous back in the day, going for all sorts of facials under the sun, never quite caring what products were used, as long as it was affordable. Then, I became more particular, and stuck with one salon for many years. When they closed, I was at a loss.

I eventually found solace in another regular facial salon. It is a spa-type facial, which employs the use of massage with hands, without the use of machines or gadgets.

Truth to tell, I am quite wary about facials using machines. I have had them before, but it was with my trusted salon. Ever since it closed, I’ve never trusted another salon with a medical-type facial.

So, when I was invited to try The Celebrity Medifacial at Ceramiracle salon at TTDI, I paused. I was all ready to say No, when I had a foolhardy moment, and said Yes instead. If it didn’t work out, I’d have a story to tell anyway right? 😛

What interested me in The Celebrity Medifacial at Ceramiracle is that it included an RF Treatment, and I had not had one of those for many years! I intentionally waited for over 2 weeks since my facial, before I reported, so I could see the effects (or not).

You know I love my facial mists, and I’d been curious about the mists from Pixi for a while. But it wasn’t until I had a few people recommend them to me, that I took a look. I added the Pixi Hydrating Milk Mist and the Pixi Vitamin Wakeup Mist to my stash while on one of my online shopping jaunts to see what the fuss was about.

You can now get Pixi Beauty at Sephora stores, but I’m hardly ever at Sephora, so I prefer to just get them online.

Pixi has a few different mists in their collection, but for a start, I decided to try 2. Just to see how I’d like them. I have to say though, that they absolutely lived up to my expectations! 🙂

I did not expect The Inkey List Turmeric Moisturiser to blow me away with its affordability and efficacy!

One of the skincare brands that most recently rocked the skincare world is the very affordable The Ordinary. However, due to their dramatics and theatrics, and being generally underwhelmed with their products, I have washed my hands of them. And then, I stumbled on another very affordable brand – The Inkey List.

I don’t propose to tell you a lot about it right now, because I’m really saving it for a mega-post to come LOL! I bought quite a few of the items in their rather considerable range, and I want to deal with it together.

But one product quickly stood out for me, and wormed its way into my affections.

The Inkey List Turmeric Moisturiser. I bought it for a very simple reason – I’m Asian and we use a lot of turmeric (kunyit) in our cooking 😛

I was also very curious to see if it was yellow. Fresh turmeric (looks like a ginger root) is orange, but when ground into powder, it is a strong, bright yellow that stains everything in sight. It is also popularly known to be an antioxidant (when consumed) and has anti-inflammatory properties.

When I received my The Inkey List order, this was the product I zeroed in on, and immediately put to the test. In fact, I put almost everything to the test LOL! But this stood out to me.
