Let May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon envelop your skin in its intoxicating iconic balm

These days I’m a little obsessed about skincare, and that’s rather dangerous because a lot of what I’m obsessed with isn’t available locally. That’s fine, with the invention of the internet, except that a lot of what I’m obsessed with tends to cost a pretty penny as well. Now, that’s the true nub of the problem.

I’d been eyeing the May Lindstrom brand up and down for quite a while, but was too afraid to take the plunge for a very long time due to the high pricetag. However, some time last year, I saw that one of the iconic products – May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon – was included in one of the Cult Beauty boxes, and that’s when I decided to take a chance on it. If it didn’t work for me, at least I didn’t pay full price for it, since there were other items in the box I could enjoy.

Well, it’s only taken me till NOW to give it a go and to tell you about it! To be honest, I only remembered I had it, when my skin was going a little nuts not long ago, and thought a simple skincare routine with just this would help. At the time, because I hadn’t identified the problem, it wasn’t a lot of help, and I mentioned on Instagram that I was disappointed. When I solved the issue with my skin, Blue Cocoon helped my skin recover and I was SOLD! I lapped it up, all £126/US$160 (RM680 approx) of it. OUCH!

Skincare Hack: Help! I have no makeup remover, what can I use?

Ever had an emergency when you need to remove your makeup, but don’t have a makeup remover on hand? I’m usually quite well organised when it comes to my skincare, so I don’t usually have this problem. When I’m travelling, I usually have a small bottle of cleansing water / micellar water on hand, and I’m proud of myself for being so organized.

But I recently found myself in this exact predicament. Pride comes before a fall, as they say!

use moisturiser to remove makeup

Lest you think there’s a juicy story behind it, there isn’t LOL! 😀 It was on my most recent flight home, when I had boarded the plane and was about to cleanse my face. I had on some brow pencil and a light layer of BB Cushion and concealer… but I realised that my on-board toiletries pouch had no cleanser! No makeup remover, no cleansing water, no cleanser.

What was a girl to do? Well, improvise of course! 😉

When the Wanderlust hits here are 4 Ways to Stay Connected Online When You Travel

I’d never been that person who has to perpetually be connected to the internet at all costs. When I go on holiday, I want to switch off and be disconnected from the world for a while. There’s so much crap going on out there, that I don’t want to think about it for a few days and just enjoy myself living in the moment. Not one to keep posting on my social media either about my being on holiday, if you’ve known me long enough – I want to enjoy my holiday, not SHOW people I’m enjoying my holiday LOL!

travel recommends overseas wifi router rental

On my most recent trip however, I broke with tradition. For this trip, because I was travelling alone for an extended period (I’m a bit kiasi), and for work, I wanted to stay connected online for a few reasons:-

  • Safety – I was on my own, and I wanted to be sure my family could contact me, or I them
  • Communication – I was going shopping, and it was useful to contact friends and family to ask if they wanted an item I thought they might like. Also, I had to communicate and contact my Airbnb host so I wanted to be sure I was able to, or be sleeping on the streets.
  • Getting around – I used Google Maps a lot to get around, and it was so helpful! I could figure out the best way to walk to where I wanted to go, to find a specific store or street, and to negotiate public transportation. Also, it allowed me to hail Uber for the first time!

Before I left, I did some research on the best ways to stay connected when you travel abroad on holiday, and I eventually settled on a travel wifi router. I reached out to the lovely people at Travel Recommends, who kindly sponsored my use of their portable pocket wifi router for my week away in Paris recently, and you know what? I’m SOLD on the idea! I know many of you love travelling as much as I do, so let me share with you my experience, and offer some other alternatives for staying connected while out of the country 🙂

Salon Spy: Caudalie Boutique Spa at Bangsar Shopping Centre is a Grape experience!

Yesterday, I was at an event in the morning, when I was asked what I was doing thereafter. “Oh, I’m going for a facial” I said flippantly. Yes, I know, what a hard life, but someone’s got to do it right? LOL!

The facial I was going for was at the Caudalie Boutique Spa at Bangsar Shopping Centre, which I believe, is the first Caudalie spa in Malaysia, and only the 4th in Asia (The other 3 are in Seoul, Shanghai and Hong Kong). Malaysia represent!

caudalie boutique spa malaysia

For many years, I’d been wanting to try a Caudalie spa, because I read that they use fresh grapes in their treatment. Grapes! How absolutely fascinating! But I was told a few years ago, that I had to either go to Bordeaux, France (I wouldn’t mind!), New York (wouldn’t mind that either!) or Shanghai (erm… no, I’ll pass 😛 ) Well, now that we have one in Malaysia, I could go and have a snoop around to see how I liked it! Hurrah!

I won a Vinosource Anti-Oxidant Hydrating Facial in a lucky draw a while ago, so I trotted off to redeem it. I’d also purchased an additional 2 facials earlier, before I won the lucky draw (darn!) and I really wanted to know if I’d picked the right one.

Well, let me spy for you, so you know what to expect at the Caudalie Boutique Spa in Malaysia 😉

Surprise! You weren’t expecting a post today were you? LOL! Well, neither was I, but I figured I’d put this off long enough for Fall collections to start appearing, and I’m feeling a serious case of guilt. Guilt, because I’m not even sure if you can find these in store anymore!

But I hope you can, because I really want you to have a look at one of these from the Chanel Dans La Lumiere de L’Ete Summer 2016 Makeup collection. Incidentally, it means “In the Summer Light” and having recently experienced summer light, I have to say, it’s disconcerting! How does one go to sleep when the sky is still light at 10pm I ask you?!

This isn’t the whole collection, naturally. It’s just the key products, and what is for me, the star product of the whole range – the Chanel Empreinte du Desert eyeshadow palette. Here’s a fairly quick run down of what I think, and if you already own any of them, I’d love to hear what YOU think, naturally! 😀

Your Say: Do you prefer to travel or fly in pants/jeans or in skirts?

Go here for full text and images: Your Say: Do you prefer to travel or fly in pants/jeans or in skirts?

I was having a short discussion with a reader @fathinsn over on Instagram a few days back, about what we wear when we travel, by way of pants or skirts. Like many, I like wearing pants or jeans when I travel, because it offers ease of movement, and for women, a modicum of modesty. You never know who’s turned on by the flash of an ankle these days. I swear we’re reverting to Puritanism.

But it gave me an idea for a blog post because I got to wondering what people wore when they travel!

These days however, when I travel or fly, I tend to wear skirts. I know it was a reader (or readers) who sicced me onto this quite a few years ago, and if you were the one who mentioned it to me, please pipe up! I can’t seem to find who it is anymore, sorry! Since I gave it a try, I’ve never looked back! So, here’s my tip for you – much to my surprise, it’s actually more comfortable to wear skirts when you travel, or fly! But I’d love to hear of your experience 🙂
